Here's a bit more information below on the services I offer
Chimney Sweeping
- In addition to the sweep, your fireplace and chimney top will be visually checked for any defects and, if found, advice given on remedial work required. A smoke test will be carried out to check the draw
- For Wood Burning Stoves, in addition to the sweep, your stove will be given a basic clean & vacuum, checked over including, glass, seals, fire bricks, baffle plate, inward air vent (if fitted) and Carbon Monoxide Alarm. This gives reassurance that your stove will be working safely and at best efficiency
- For wood stoves in need of a bit more than a clean I can offer glass soot removal and minor repairs to the door rope seals. Please ask for a price, which will depend on the work required.
- An ICS Chimney Sweeping Certificate will be issued on completion which will keep your woodstove warranty valid, as most manufacturers will require
Bird's Nest Removal
Common birds that nest in chimneys include jackdaws, swifts, house martins, rooks, and starlings, with jackdaws being the most frequent visitors in the UK. Birds can begin nesting in chimneys very quickly, sometimes completing a basic nest in a couple of days and rebuilding a removed one in hours. If you suspect you’ve got a nest – bird activity to the chimney or twigs down the chimney – then give me a call. It needs removing and some prevention put in place.
Nest removal from the chimney can be a long job and starts at around an additional £30 on top of the normal sweeping charge. Give me a call to discuss if you need advice.
CCTV Chimney Inspection
A number of chimney problems can be explained by a close look inside the chimney with a CCTV camera. Reports of a poor draw or smoking may be caused by a blockage of some sort, like a bird’s nest or collapsed chimney liner. The camera is attached to the end of the sweeping rods and the picture relayed to a monitor at the fireplace or stove. I can then advise what might be the best solution to clear the problem.
A CCTV inspection is charged at from £30 but may be more if a long investigation is required. I will advise in advance if it is likely to exceed £30.
